PETALING JAYA: It is now up to Faisal Halim to decide whether to take some time away from the pitch or return to action immediately.
Selangor have assured the national winger of their full support, stressing that they will respect any decision he makes as he goes through personal challenges.
The 27-year-old was left out of Malaysia’s friendly match against Palestine on Monday, with personal matters and a minor knee injury cited as the reasons.
Selangor chief executive officer Dr Johan Kamal Hamidon emphasised that both he and head coach Katsuhito Kinoshi are standing firmly behind Faisal during this period.
“This is a coaching decision, and I’m sure the coach will also give full support to Faisal and give him the space,” said Johan.
“Our focus is on Faisal and whatever decision he makes.
“If he (Faisal) wants to play, why stop? And if he wants to take a break, why stop him from doing that?”
It remains to be seen if Faisal will be part of the line-up when the Red Giants take on A1 Semi-Pro team Malaysian Universities in the FA Cup round-of-16 second-leg match at the Petaling Jaya Stadium tomorrow.
Johan added that Faisal remains a professional despite his personal matters and is confident the national player will remain strong to see things through to the best of his abilities.
“He is a professional player and we all know how strong he is, how many times he has fallen and gotten right back up,” said Johan.
“Faisal’s commitment to the club remains unshaken. Whatever he is dealing with has not affected his work, there is a clear separation.
“Although there is so much happening, we don’t see it fully. Faisal is emotionally strong.
“He loves his family, and at the same time is very professional when it comes to football.
“We hope for the best outcome from this situation,” said Johan.
After Selangor play in the FA Cup, they will then host Bangkok United on Thursday in the AFC Champions League 2 group stage.
