PETALING JAYA: When Chrigor Moraes signed for Selangor ahead of the new season, the buzz among the Red Giants faithful was immediate.
The Brazilian attacker arrived with a reputation built in Thailand’s top flight and was quickly seen as a player who could help push the club to new heights.
But with high expectations come immense pressure, something Moraes, 24, welcomes with open arms.
“I’m a professional player. I like challenges,” he said with quiet confidence.
“I enjoy playing under pressure with big teams, and Selangor are one of those teams. Everyone here is ready to fight for the name of Selangor.”
The move to the Malaysian Super League came at a key point in Moraes’ career.
Still under contract with Thai powerhouse Buriram United, with a year remaining on his deal, the Brazilian was already attracting interest from clubs both within Thailand and across Asia.
But when Selangor came knocking, the decision was clear.
“I had many offers from other clubs in Thailand and even from other countries.
“But I chose Selangor because they’re a big club, and I liked their project.
“When the offer came while the Thai League was still going on, it felt like the right time.
“Selangor bought my contract, and now I’m fully focused on giving everything for this club.”
At Selangor, Moraes joins a squad with ambition and depth.
As the new season approaches, the expectations from fans are sky-high, not just to compete, but to win.
That’s the kind of environment the striker thrives in.
“I will do my best to help my teammates achieve our goals this season. I know the fans expect a lot, and I’m here to give everything, on and off the pitch.”
