Former Penang goalie Firos Mohamed dies after collapsing during match


PETALING JAYA: Former Penang goalkeeper Firos Mohamed has died after collapsing during a match at the Manjung Municipal Council Stadium on Saturday (July 5).

Firos, 53, died of a heart attack on the pitch while playing a match against Kedah for the Dr Zambry Abd Kadir Cup, which featured football legends from the two states as well as Perak and Perlis.

Penang confirmed the tragic news in a statement and extended their condolences to the late goalkeeper's family.

"The Penang board of directors and their entire staff extend their heartfelt condolences to the family of former Pepang goalkeeper Firos Mohamed," the statement said.

Firos was hailed as a top-notch goalie for the Panthers in the 90s.
