Soccer-Al-Sadd thrash Al-Ahly to retain Qatar Stars League title

(Reuters) - Al‮-‬Sadd retained the Qatar Stars League title with a crushing 5-0 victory over Al-Ahly on Friday in the final game of the season.

Al-Sadd finished the campaign on 52 points, two points ahead of Al-Duhail who beat relegated Al-Khor 1-0.

Akram Afif opened the scoring for Al-Sadd after 13 minutes with a penalty after winning the spot-kick himself and Mostafa Meshaal made it 2-0 just before halftime.

Afif assisted the third goal in the first minute of added time after a low cross from the left to Paulo Otavio who tapped the ball into the net.

Afif also set up the fourth goal for Rafa Mujica and Claudinho completed the rout nine minutes from time with a fine strike.

Al-Sadd won the Qatar Stars League title for the 18th time and the fourth in the last five years.
