Future of several coaches in limbo for next season

PETALING JAYA: Uncertain future looms for several coaches in the Super League following a series of disappointing results.

After Kelantan suffered a 1-2 defeat to Negri Sembilan, interim coach Reezal Zambery Yahya expressed uncertainty about his future.

Currently grappling with owed salary arrears, Reezal stated he was focused on completing the season with the Golden Deers but was unclear on his position next season.

“I haven’t made a decision yet. I’ll evaluate my options once my contract ends. My priority is to fulfil my responsibilities here,” he said.

“I’ve been selected to pursue my pro licence, and I will concentrate on that. Coaching is still my passion, but I recognise the challenges I face in securing a position, given that the results haven’t favoured me.”

However, Reezal remains optimistic about his development as a coach.

“I’ve learned a lot and always look for ways to improve.”

The former Malaysian international also noted that the coaching market had been shrinking, particularly with the absence of the MFL Cup next season and uncertainty surrounding the number of teams in the Super League.

“Clubs are likely to seek reputed names, but many local coaches are eager for opportunities. I hope they get a chance,” he added.

Negri Sembilan coach, K. Nanthakumar, is also uncertain about his future, stating that the decision rests with the management.

“I don’t know what will happen. I will continue to give my best effort, but ultimately it’s up to the management.”

Despite their victory over Kelantan, Nanthakumar was dissatisfied with his team’s performance.

“Yes, we won, but we missed numerous chances and only fought for the winner after Kelantan equalised. We can’t afford to take things lightly.”

Negri’s goals came from Japanese playmaker Takumi Sasaki in the 42nd minute and centreback Nasrullah Haniff Johan in the 95th minute, while Kelantan’s lone goal resulted from an own goal by Nasrullah in the 77th minute.

Negri sit in 12th place with 16 points from 23 matches, while Kelantan remain at the bottom in 13th with just seven points from the same number of games.
