PETALING JAYA: The Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration period was much needed for the Selangor players, calling it a much-needed mental break.
Selangor’s Jordanian defender Mohammad Abualnadi said a couple of days off was good for the players, as they are now focused on finishing the last two games of the season on a winning note.
The Red Giants will take on Terengganu at the Petaling Jaya Stadium tomorrow, hoping to get three points though the opposition need to win the game to keep their hopes of finishing in the top four alive.
Abualnadi is aware of what’s ahead but said his teammates are in it to win.
“We had a couple days off for Eid. It was a nice time away from the pitch. It is good to have a mental break. Now we are fully focused on what’s coming ahead,” said the 24-year-old Jordanian international.
“We always focus on ourselves. That is paramount for us in any game. Easy or hard game, we have to think of what we should do on the field. We know they need the three points, but we also want the win.
“Despite us already securing the second spot and getting the AFC Champions League Two spot, we are professionals, we want to win all matches.”
Selangor are second in the league with 46 points from 22 matches while Terengganu are fifth with 32 points from 21 games.
Meanwhile, Selangor coach Katsuhito Kinoshi said his boys have come back to their usual physical condition despite the Raya break.
“They know how to control their fitness and mental condition during Ramadan. They fasted but their state has not changed. Their body weight remains intact and their condition is strong too. As professionals, they maintained their condition,” said the Japanese tactician.
He also said the team have learnt from their previous 1-2 defeat against Kuching City in the Super League and will try to reduce the errors against Terengganu.
“I want to promise but we will do our best. Football is football. Whether a big or small club, mistakes do happen but they must not recur again. We cannot be too satisfied with where we are now. We have to be hungry to produce good games.
“Tough game because Terengganu want to win and we also want to win because it is our home game. I want the last two games to be good for us.”
