PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Football League (MFL) are positive that all 13 teams in the Super League will still feature in the 2025-2026 season.
But much will depend on whether all sides can meet the club licensing requirements by the April 30 deadline.
There are still concerns that some teams might pull out, especially those mired in financial issues.
Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) owner and Johor regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim recently said Kedah and Pahang could leave the league due to internal issues.
But MFL interim chief executive officer (CEO) Shazli Shaik (pic) said they have been in contact with the clubs for the past month and the situation seems positive so far.
“Our secretariat is always discussing with the clubs. We are aware of some of the teams’ financial issues but in the last month, we have been reminding them to get the documentation done properly,” he said.
“We believe all 13 teams are commited to staying in the league.
“We’ve also had meetings and the clubs are doing their licensing for AFC and national competitions.
“The deadline for the AFC licensing is March 31 while it’s April 30 for the national.”
On rumours that the league structure could change with the return of the Premier League, Shazli said it would all depend on the club licensing.
“In terms of the structure of the league, we will only know after April 30 and the First Instance Body (FIB) will convene to decide on who gets the national licence,” he said.
“We will issue an official statement soon on the league structure. We are fine-tuning some details and will see the number of teams that passed their licensing.”
