Kedah say they will play on

Staying put: Kedah will continue to fight to remain in the Super League next season.

PETALING JAYA: Kedah have never had the intention of shutting their doors despite claims that the club were folding next season.

Kedah FC owner Tan Sri Dr Daud Abu Bakar clarified that the Canaries’ management have been working to complete all Club Licensing requirements set by the Malaysian Football League (MFL) to compete in the Malaysian League (M-League) next season.

His response to Kedah fans comes after Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) owner and Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim said Kedah, as well as Pahang, will not be competing in the Super League next season due to internal issues.

“To all respected and beloved members of Kedah. As you are aware, the issue regarding Kedah not being in the M-League next season has gone viral on social media,” said Daud.

“However, this is not a decision made by Kedah as a fact.

“We have never had the intention to dissolve the team, and we have never sent any letters that suggest we intend to leave the M-League,” he said.

Daud added that despite the speculations of the club’s future, the management would continue to find ways to ensure the team remained competing in the league.

“We will continue to fight to remain in the Super League next season. Nothing is wasted when we fight. What is wasted is not making any effort and doing nothing,” said Daud.

“I hope this statement provides some clarification and confidence to everyone,” he added.
