PETALING JAYA: Selangor goalkeeper Kalamullah Al-Hafiz (pic) could have caught the eye of national coach Peter Cklamovski after his impressive show in the 0-0 draw with Sabah in the Super League last week.
Cklamovski and his staff were there at the game where the 29-year-old Kalamullah stood out with some superb saves, including stopping a penalty from Darren Lok which would have won Sabah the match.
Now, talk is rife that he has a good chance of donning the Harimau Malaya colours.
Kalamullah is no doubt encouraged by that prospect but he is quick to admit that he needs to give more of such displays before he can earn a spot in the national team.
“It’s good to hear people saying that but I know I can do even better than this. It takes a lot to get into the national side. It’s so competitive as there other goalkeepers who are also performing well,’’ said the Kelantanese.
Kalamullah knows what stiff competition is all about, after moving to Selangor from Kedah in September last year.
He had to wait for a month before making his debut, as he had quality custodians like Azim Al-Amin, Samuel Somerville and Khairulazhan Khalid to contend with for a regular spot.
Now he treasures every chance he gets to man the posts.
‘’The stiff competition has kept me on my toes and I won’t take anything for granted.
‘’We have four games left and I’m ready to help the team secure our second spot.’’
Selangor, second in the league with 43 points from 20 matches, will next take on Kelantan at the Sultan Mohd IV Stadium in Kota Baru on March 8.
