PETALING JAYA: Venezuelan playmaker Yohandry Orozco is back pulling the strings in midfield for Selangor after recovering from a hamstring injury.
And since his return to action last month, the Red Giants have looked smoother in the middle of the park.
The 33-year-old Orozco even surprised himself by doing the unexpected to inspire Selangor to their Challenge Cup success last week by scoring twice in the second-leg final against Police, which they won 4-0 for a 7-0 aggregate victory.
‘’One of the goals I scored was a header. Now that’s something rare, as I don’t normally score with my head,” said Orozco, a former VfL Wolfsburg player.
He also dedicated a goal to his pregnant wife by tucking the ball under his jersey, much to the delight of the fans.
‘’These are the magical moments that we treasure as players. It feels great to be back and playing an important role for the team,’’ he added.
Orozco made his comeback in the Challenge Cup second-leg semi-final against Penang where he did quite a lot in just 14 minutes to help Selangor through.
The brief but effective display was enough to convince coach Katsuhito Kinoshi that he could be a regular from that game onwards.
Orozco next went on to feature fully in four matches, culminating in that inspirational display that led to Selangor ending their 10-year wait for a trophy.
Overall, he has played 30 games for Selangor in all competitions, scoring 10 goals and making 10 assists.
Orozco has set his mind on helping Selangor win their remaining matches in the Super league to seal second spot and qualify for the AFC Champions League Two competition.
‘’That’s our next goal, and we’re fully focused on it,’’ he added.
Selangor will next take on minnows Kelantan at the Sultan Mohd IV Stadium in Kota Baru on March 8.
