Football: The City Boys bow out of Asean Club Championships

PETALING JAYA: Another Malaysian club bit the dust in the Asean Club Championships.

Kuala Lumpur failed to qualify for the semi-finals after finishing fourth in Group B with six points.

The City Boys did not win their final group game after losing to Thai giants Buriram United 0-1 at the Chang Arena in Buriram on Thursday (Feb 6).

The home side dominated possession in the first half, while Kuala Lumpur resorted to a conservative approach and did not conjure strong chances.

Buriram got the goal in the 37th minute when Brazilian striker Lucas Crispim finished off a superb low-drilled pass from left back and captain Teerathon Bunmathan.

The first half belonged to Buriram, as they had a whopping 81 per cent of possession, and made 369 passes, compared to Kuala Lumpur’s 88.

The second half was still the Buriram as they dominated proceedings, having about 75 per cent possession and had a number of good chances, which were thwarted superbly by Kuala Lumpur goalkeeper Hafizul Hakim.

The game ended 0-1, as Buriram are the other side to qualify for the semi-final after finishing second with 10 points. Vietnamese club Cong An Ha Noi topped the group with 13 points.

The other Malaysian team Terengganu also failed to get to the next stage after finishing third in their group.
