ALOR SETAR: Kedah expect to generate sufficient income in the next three to six months to ensure the Canaries can continue competing in the Malaysia Football League.

KDA owner Tan Sri Dr Mohd Daud Bakar said the income is expected to be obtained through various business and funding strategies seen as a new approach to generating financial revenue for the team.

“We hope what happened to Kedah last season does not recur, and I’m confident it will not if the Canaries fans can give full support to all the efforts made to increase the team’s financial resources.

“We have launched various products under Kedah’s name, including coffee, mineral water, vitamins, health drinks, shirts, towels and socks to attract the interest of supporters to help the team by purchasing these items,” he said at a press conference at Darul Aman Stadium yesterday.

Earlier, he introduced nearly 30 strategic partners, sponsors and businesses collaborating with Kedah to help the team through this season.

Daud said if between 5,000 and 10,000 people buy the products offered by Kedah, then within three to six months, the team could generate sufficient income until the end of this season.

“So far, our financial sources have come from sponsors and match ticket sales, but that amount is insufficient,” he said.

“So, it’s time we changed the way to increase the team’s income.

“Currently, we have 10 business partners, and the number is expected to increase to 100 by the end of this season... every week, we hold a press conference to introduce new business partners, so I hope the people of Kedah continue to support this effort,” he said.

He said discussions are ongoing with several parties interested in becoming the first, second, third and even fourth main sponsors. — Bernama
