Kuching City, Kedah, Terengganu and Penang advance to FA Cup quarter-finals


PETALING JAYA: Kuala Lumpur has been eliminated from the FA Cup after a shock 2-3 defeat to Kuching City in the last 16 at the Cheras Football Stadium on Friday (June 14).

The game ended 2-2 in regulation time, with goals for the Cats scored by wingback Filemon Anyie Standly (26th minute) and winger Nur Shamie Izsuan Amin (68th minute).

The City Boys, who were runners-up last year, scored through strikers Haqimi Azim Rosli (14th) and Paulo Josue (39th).

The extra-time winner was scored by Zharul Nizwan in the 123rd minute took the team to the quarter-finals. In Gong Badak, home side Terengganu etched a slim 2-1 win against Perak at the Sultan Mizan Stadium.

Perak took the lead through centreback Luiz Motta in the sixth minute, but Terengganu fought back with goals from winger Safawi Rasid (35th) and midfielder Marin Pilj (42nd).

In Alor Setar, Kedah thrashed AI Semi-Pro League club Bukit Tambun 5-0 at the Darulaman Stadium.

Striker Ebenezer Assifuah was the toast when he scored a hattrick in the 39th, 68th and 79th minutes. Fellow striker Milos Gordic scored in the 15th minute, while midfielder Amirul Hisyam Awang Kechik netted the second in the 20th minute.

In Temerloh, Penang beat Pahang 4-2 in a penalty shootout after holding each other out 1-1 at the end of the regulation and extra time at the Temerloh Stadium. They will take on northern rivals Kedah in the two-legged quarter-finals.
