Kedah urge fans to help team survive financial crisis by interacting with sponsors

PETALING JAYA: Kedah’s financial travails have been well publicised and among all the teams in the Super League, they are the only side without a main sponsor.

They are working day and night to look for a big sponsor, with team owner Tan Sri Daud Bakar revealing that if they can’t find one, the team will struggle financially throughout the season.

He even said they needed to find one big sponsor otherwise they can only sustain the club for another two months.

They also need the fans to help out, especially in purchasing items affiliated to the club.

Yesterday, Daud revealed that the team are working with a telecommunications company and also two food and beverage outlets for fans to purchase products that would help finance the club.

“We are pleased to announce that Kedah have been appointed as a master dealer for XOX, a telecommunications company that sells postpaid and prepaid plans. We hope the fans would purchase and help us,” he said.

“We’ve also made an affiliation with E-Desa, an e-commerce company that would be selling provisions and we hope the fans would download the app and help the club make some income.

“Then there are food and beverage companies also with us. All these are part of Kedah’s plans to increase the club’s income to sustain the team for the season.

Coach Nafuzi Zain said after the 0-2 loss to Perak that the situation is tough for the team but it has not reduced the professionalism and passion shown by the players, coaching staff and officers in the team.

“I’m just grateful, especially for the attitude of the players and the staff.

“The defeat to Perak is painful but the team’s passion and their fighting spirit have to be lauded. I’m sure we will bounce back, ” said Nafuzi.
