Kenny ready to be a monster in midfield again

PETALING JAYA: Back to the midfield with vengeance!

Kuala Lumpur’s utility man D. Kenny Pallraj (pic) is putting in the hours of training to ensure he gives a combative performance in the middle of the park when the City Boys take on Penang in the Malaysia Cup round-of-16 second-leg match at the Cheras Football Stadium today.

Kuala Lumpur have a commanding lead as they won the first leg 4-0 in Georgetown and just need to maintain the lead to get to the quarter-final.

Kenny, 30, is the best person to help with that plan, thanks to his qualities as a defensive midfielder.

Throughout this season, the Ipoh-born boy has often been used as a centreback but it is learnt that coach Nenad Bacina needs an aggressive player with a high work rate to get the job done against the Panthers.

Kenny is expected to be partnered with Dane Sebastian Avanzini or Akram Mahinan in midfield.

Kenny said he is looking forward to playing in his usual position again.

“It won’t be a problem for me moving back to midfield as I’ve been with this team for almost three years now. I’ve also worked under coach Nenad before,” said the 2021 Malaysia Cup champion.

‘’We have a big lead against Penang but we must not be complacent and play with the aim to win.’’
