Deer grab late equaliser to deny KL win in closely contested match

PETALING JAYA: Negri Sembilan denied Kuala Lumpur full points as the Deer managed to grab a stoppage-time equaliser to hold the hosts 1-1 in their Super League match at the Cheras Football Stadium yesterday.

Colombian attacker Romal Morales headed the City Boys into the lead in the 40th minute with a glancing header off a cross from Paulo Josue.

In the second-half, the Deer dominated possession but could not find a breakthrough, with substitute Hafiz Ramdan missing two good chances.

KL relied on counter attacks and set-pieces in an attempt to get a second goal but in-form Negri goalkeeper Sikh Izhan Sikh Azrel Azman proved too hard to beat when he pulled off some superb saves.

Negri eventually drew level in the final seconds of the game when centreback Zainal Abidin Jamil tapped in off a header from Nasrullah Haniff Johan from a corner in the 93rd minute.

KL moved to sixth in the standings with 25 points while Negri are now ninth with 20 points.
