PETALING JAYA: Nippy midfielder Zhafri Yahya (pic), long known as “Mr Kuala Lumpur” because of his constant inclusion in the team’s line-up, has not had the greatest year so far due to an injury.
The player from Rawang, a regular in the first 11 since 2015, has been involved in just five of 11 matches so far this year, three of them as a substitute.
It’s a situation alien to the 28-year-old, who has always been one of coach Bojan Hodak’s go-to guys. Known for his versatility and ability to play anywhere in midfield, Zhafri says he has been grappling with fitness issues recently. He revealed that he has just recovered from a heel injury and is still finding his rhythm.
And he hopes to get back on his feet when the City Boys take on Negri Sembilan tomorrow at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi.
“I am working on my fitness to ensure I can get more minutes on the field. It has taken time, but the season’s break came at the right time, especially before the match against Negri Sembilan,” he said.
Kuala Lumpur are currently sixth in the league with 15 points from nine matches.
