PETALING JAYA: Penang’s Brazilian striker Lucas Espindola (pic) has urged his teammates not to give up the fight to get out of their basement position in the Super League.
And the Panthers’ cause only gets more difficult as they have an in-form Pahang to worry about at the City Stadium in Georgetown today.
The Elephants have gone four games unbeaten, winning three and drawing one as they lie fifth with 18 points.
But Espindola wants his teammates to go the extra mile and get a win.
“We had nine days to prepare for this game. Pahang have been impressive but I believe we have a chance of stopping them,’’ said the 32-year-old.
“Coach Zainal (Abidin Hassan) is no stranger to Pahang’s game and we trust his game plan and tactics.
“In our last game against Negri, we gave a really good fight before losing 3-2. That’s the same spirit we will need against Pahang.’’
Espindola, who joined Penang during the second transfer window to replace fellow Brazilian Casagrande, has scored four goals in five games.
He has been one of Penang’s standout players and hopes he can inspire them to a win today.
“My teammates have helped me to score many goals. They know my movements well and make the right passes. I want to inspire them further so that we win more games and get to a much better position.’’
