PETALING JAYA: Four more players have been named in the national FAM eRimau team for the SEA Games esports FIFA Online (FO4) competition in Vietnam.
The four players chosen by head coach Ahmad Akmal Rafil for the FO4 team were Luqman Haziq Hajiman, Asyraf Kamal, Gan Mun Kiat and Wan Hakimm Wan Narizan.
The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) made the decision to combine the players for the FO4 squad with those from the eRimau FIFAe Nations Cup squad.
This was done to form a strong team that can reach the target set for this edition’s Games.
The world football governing body, FIFA had also advised countries which don’t have the FO4 server including Malaysia to choose players that competed in the FIFA eNations tournament or based on trial stages using FIFA HD.
Out of the four, Luqman is from GBX Esports team while the other three are from Orange esports team.
The FAM eRimau squad managed to qualify under Category A for the SEA Games thanks to Luqman’s fifth world ranking in the squad at the FIFA eNations tournament.
The squad had undergone training at the FAM headquarters in Kelana Jaya from April 25-29 and were due to fly to Hanoi on May 10.
The qualifying rounds of the FO4 event at the biennial Games are scheduled to take place on May 14 while the final will be on the next day at the Vietnam National Convention Center.
