Amad finds heroes in his coaches

PETALING JAYA: Centreback Muhammad Mohd Faudzi (pic) is not short of role models now that he has joined Kuala Lumpur.

The 25-year-old, who moved to the City side from after six years with Terengganu, is looking forward to learning from the likes of coach Bojan Hodak and assistant coach Mohd Shukor Adan.

Both Bojan and Shukor were centrebacks during their playing days, and Muhammad revealed that he is a fan of Shukor’s playing style and Bojan’s tactics.

“I have been following Bojan for quite a while, especially when he coached sides like Kelantan, Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) and now Kuala Lumpur. He is tactically organised, but I appreciate the way he gets the goals,” he said.

“Look at the set pieces he draws up. He has so many patterns and plans from corners and free kicks. It’s meticulous but one that can give you results. So, I have always been impressed.

“Shukor was a respected professional in the Malaysian game, and now he is our assistant coach. Over the years, I only watched him play, but now he is teaching me the art of defending.

“For me, it’s about learning and improving, and these two men are good teachers.”

Muhammad, fondly known as Amad by his peers, knows earning his place in the City team is not going to be easy, especially in the centreback position.

Kuala Lumpur have top names like Australian Giancarlo Gallifuoco, national centreback Irfan Zakaria and defensive midfielder turned centreback D. Kenny Pallraj, who had an impressive Malaysia Cup campaign last year.

“It’s not easy. But in any team, you need competition because it makes everyone better and the team would have depth. Irfan, GG (Gallifuoco) and Kenny are fighters.

“But I will fight too,” said Muhammad who is hoping to help Kuala Lumpur retain the Malaysia Cup title they won last year and push for a top-three finish in the Super League.
