IPOH: The high cost of maintaining the Perak FC team is among the factors cosmetic industry entrepreneur Datuk Seri Dr Hasmiza Othman (pic) is looking into before committing herself to buying over the team.
Hasmiza, popularly known as Datuk Seri Vida, said a careful evaluation was necessary to ensure a win-win situation as running a football team involved major expenses such as players’ salaries.
“I’m still looking into the overhead, maintenance cost, the hire purchase aspect, players’ salaries, which players can be developed and a host of other issues. The factor of crowd support also needs to be considered.
“All these require a smart investment that can possibly give returns in two years to make the venture worthwhile, ” Vida, who is also a gold trader.
She said her experience in sponsoring Kelantan in 2015 and 2016 had taught her to be more careful in investing in any football team.
“Football is a risky business. It’s seasonal. Even if there is (fan) support, there is no guarantee of returns in the form of sales of jerseys and souvenirs, ” said Vida, who was born in Kelantan but has been residing in Perak for some time.
