SEREMBAN: Former Negri Sembilan player K. Devan has returned to his state to coach the Premier League side for the third time next season.

The 59-year-old, who was born in Bahau, started his coaching career with the Deer in 2004.

He guided them to the Super League title in 2005-06 and took them to the Malaysia Cup final and the semi-final of the FA Cup that year.

He returned to his home state in 2015 after his stint in Penang ended.

Devan also won the best coach award twice in 2005-06 and 2009.

Negri Sembilan Football Assoc-iation president Tunku Syed Razman Tunku Syed Idrus Al-Qadri said in a statement yesterday that the decision to hire the Petaling Jaya City coach was made after an interview they had with him.

“As you all know, K. Devan is a former Negri coach and a player who has achieved a lot of success in his career.

“I’m confident with his experience and achievements, he will be able to guide us to the Super League in 2022, ” said Tunku Syed Razman.

Last season, under former coach Sazali Saidon, Negri finished in 11th place out of 12 teams with just three wins, two draws and six defeats. — Bernama
