PETALING JAYA: Harimau Malaya fans will have to wait till next year to see Malaysia in competitive action again.
It has been confirmed that the 2022 World Cup-2023 Asian Cup qualifiers will be postponed to next year.
The Asian Football Confederation, the footballing body confirmed in a statement that they and FIFA had jointly decided for the upcoming qualifying matches – originally scheduled to take place during the international match windows in October and November 2020 – would be rescheduled to 2021.
The decision was taken to protect the health and safety of all participants.
FIFA and the AFC said they would continue to work together to closely monitor the situation in the region and to identify new dates for the qualifying matches.
The national team led by coach Tan Cheng Hoe was supposed to take on the United Arab Emirates away on Oct 8, host Vietnam on Oct 13 before completing their fixtures against Thailand in Bangkok on Nov 17.
