Malaysia beat Thailand 2-1 to claim second win in WC qualifiers

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia has notched their second win in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers by beating Thailand 2-1 at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Thursday (Nov 14).

The victory was certainly sweet, as Malaysia last beat their South-East Asian rivals 15 years ago with the same scoreline in the Tiger Cup.

In their Group G qualifying match against the War Elephants, Malaysia first conceded when Thailand’s Chanathip Songkrasin scored in the seventh minute.

However, Brendan Gan proved to be the catalyst for Harimau Malaya as he scored one and assisted one goal in the match.

He first scored in the 26th minute, and then made an inch-perfect lobbed pass for Mohamadou Sumareh’s winning goal in the 57th minute.
