Malaysian Tigers trounce Brunei 11-0 in AFC U-19 qualifiers

PETALING JAYA: The national team continued their winning momentum in their 2020 AFC Under-19 Championship qualifying campaign after whipping a hapless Brunei 11-0 in their second Group G match.

The Malaysians were the dominant side in the match and got their goals from Azrin Afiq (17th minute), Luqman Hakim (21st [penalty], 22nd, 24th and 41st), Azam Azmi (31st and 60th), Aiman Afif (39th, 85th, 90th) and Harith Haiqal (59th) at the at the National Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh on Wednesday (Nov 6) night.

Malaysia, who now have six points after two matches, are now placed second in the group behind Thailand on goal difference. Thailand scored an emphatic 21-0 win over Northern Mariana Islands in their second Group G match.

Hosts Cambodia, with three points, are ahead of Brunei on goal difference, while the Northern Mariana Islands prop up the group without any points.

The national team, who kicked off their campaign with a 5-4 win over hosts Cambodia last week, will take on Northern Mariana Islands next on Nov 8 before wrapping up their campaign against heavyweights Thailand on Nov 10.
