PKNP are banking on Kalidou from Senegal to be their hero in Super League

Kalidou Coulibaly Yero will be leading PKNP

PETALING JAYA: PKNP have completed their foreign line-up by signing Senegalese Kalidou Coulibaly Yero.

And to those who thought it is the other Senegalese namesake from Napoli, you are wrong! 

The Manjung-based club have signed lanky striker Yero from the Portuguese LigaPro (Portuguese second division) club CD Cova Piedade.

The 1.97cm player, who holds Portuguese citizenship, has featured for Senegal in the 2012 Olympic Games in London. 

For head coach Abu Bakar Fadzim, his height and physical attribute will add some dimension to his team’s attack. 

“I’ve watched him play in the Olympics, and I was impressed by his height. Yero is a good target man,” said the former Perak coach.

“He can defend and attack during set-piece situations. For the first time, Yero is playing in Asia, and I’ve challenged him to make an immediate impact here.

Having trained with the team for five days, the 27-year-old striker could feature in his first match tomorrow against PKNS in Kelana Jaya.

“I’ll give him 70 minutes of playing time since he just arrived. Yero will have to work on his conditioning and combination with players before our league opener against Kedah on Feb 2.”

Abu Bakar also confirmed that the club would stick to four foreign players instead of five.

“For the first transfer window, we’ve only signed four foreign players. I’m happy with the players I have. 

“However, if there is a need to bolster the squad, we will look for a Southeast Asian player in the second transfer window.”

The other foreigners are Tajikistan defender Siyovush Asrorov, Palestinian international Yashir Pinto and Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Abbey.
