PETALING JAYA: As expected, national defender Syazwan Andik Ishak has signed with Super League champions Johor Darul Ta’zim and has been included in their pre-season tour of Thailand.
The Southern Tigers arrived in Bangkok on Sunday and are slated to play Ratchaburi Mitr Phol on Thursday, Bangkok United on Sunday and Rayong on Jan 23.
The 22-year-old Syazwan is JDT’s second major local signing after Akhyar Rashid, who penned a four-year contract with a release clause of RM12mil.
The Skudai-local had previously played for JDT II in the Premier League in 2016 before deciding to join Kuala Lumpur in 2017.
He was expected to stay on with Kuala Lumpur but left after the City Boys failed to pay his salary for two months at the tail end of last season.
JDT, who expressed their intention to sign Syazwan last Saturday, sealed the deal less than 24 hours later and announced the signing via a posting on the Johor Southern Tigers Facebook page.
The former AFC Cup champions posted photos of Syazwan, wearing a JDT collar T-shirt standing next to the club logo on their page. It also posted “Welcome home Syazwan Andik” above the photos on the page, which also had a short video.
