PETALING JAYA: Football Association of Selangor (FAS) president Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has dismissed the executive committee who were elected at an Extraordinary Congress (EC).
Tengku Amir said on Thursday the EC which purportedly re-elected him as FAS president was without his consent and organised by a group of individuals.
“I would like to reiterate that the EC is invalid, it did not follow the procedures and is not recognised by myself and the association.
“FAS have had multiple meetings with the Sports Commissioner and FAM, and we have kept them updated with facts and proof since the beginning of this issue to prove that the EC is invalid,” said Tengku Amir in a statement yesterday.
Tengku Amir, who is also Raja Muda of Selangor, said the EC remains null and void and claimed that they have not met the requirements as stated in Article 30 of the FAS Statute 2010, and have failed to show any evidence to the Sports Commissioner and FAM that they have sufficient quorum to call for an EC.
“Therefore, I would like to dismiss any decisions made during the purported EC on Nov 8, including the newly elected officers of FAS.”
It was claimed that Tengku Amir was re-elected as FAS president and that Datuk Muhammad Nasir Hamzah was elected as the deputy president for the term 2018-2022.
Datuk Ariffin Hamid, Omar Ali, Hamdan Hashim and Roslin Shariff were also elected as the four new vice-presidents and the 13 executive committee members saw a total change.
Omar claimed that they had enough quorum during the EC as 54 of the 96 affiliates were present.
Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim also took to Twitter to chime in on the issue and claimed that he knew that there would be a lot of “sharks” who would take advantage of the Selangor government’s money.
“The only thing I fear is that RMS (Raja Muda of Selangor) is not aware of the game and individuals will take advantage of him. In JDT, nothing moves without my signature.”
“My advice to RMS is to get advice from the right people. One good person is the Selangor MB (Mentri Besar, Amirudin Shaari), he is passionate about developing football and he has experience.
“Second, is what I learnt from many big football clubs around the world – never involve marketing and football development. Get good individuals and a technical director in the same mould as Peter de Roo (FAM technical director).
“I hope RMS will learn from the mistakes I made early on, which is employing the wrong people. Fortunately, I learnt quickly and I hope RMS would also be able to do so because employing the right individuals is crucial.”
In July, Tengku Amir was elected as FAS president to replace Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal.
But several affiliates called for the EC as there was some dissatisfaction. Among the allegations were that representatives of the affiliates were not included in the FAS fixed committee and that the appointments of some of the vice-presidents were invalid.
