Don’t write him off just yet, Indra’s the man to watch for KL

PETALING JAYA: Old warhorse Indra Putra Mahayuddin is out to prove he still has plenty to offer his new team Kuala Lumpur in the 2018 Super League season.

The decorated 36-year-old is one of three former internationals – along with winger Zaquan Adha Abdul Razak and defender Firdaus Faudzi – snapped up by the City boys as they return to the top flight after a five-year hiatus.

Indra has played for Kelantan in three different seasons – in 2009-2010, 2012-2013 and 2016-2017.

The versatile Indra, who’s most effective in attack either as a midfielder or striker, was fielded as a defensive midfielder by KL coach Fabio Magrao in the 1-0 win over PKNS in a friendly last week.

“I’m OK playing in any position. I just want to help my team win matches. We’re still at the early stage of the pre-season and there’s more to come from us,” said Indra.

“I’m getting used to my new teammates here, some of them have played with me or against me before so I think there should not be any problem for us to play as a team. We just need more training.

“We have a good blend of youth and experience. I hope I can help the team achieve our target of remaining in the Super League.”

Indra’s enduring career, which began in 1998, has seen him don the jerseys of Perak, Pahang, Selangor, Kelantan, T-Team and Felda United.

He has won all the domestic titles, including the M-League treble of the Super League, FA Cup and Malaysia Cup with Kelantan in 2012.
