Felda continue Super League lead after thrashing Police at home

PETALING JAYA: Felda United consolidated their lead at the top of the Super League standings with a convincing 4-0 win over Police at the Tun Abdul Razak Stadium in Jengka, Pahang.

The Fighters were in total command of the game on Wednesday and led through national winger Christie Jayaseelan in the 21st minute before Uzbekistan striker Lutfulla Turaev added a brace in the 27th and 88th minutes. Liberian Francis Doe wrapped up the scoring with the fourth goal in stoppage time.

The Fighters lead the 12-team standings with 21 points – one more than second-placed Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), who returned to winning ways with a 5-2 thrashing of Sarawak at the Larkin Stadium in Johor Baru.

The Southern Tigers bounced back with vengeance after losing their 14-match unbeaten streak in all competitions to Kedah in an FA Cup semi-final first-leg match in Alor Setar last week.

Argentine hotshot Jorge Diaz opened the floodgates in the fourth minute before former international K. Gurusamy equalised for Sarawak in the 13th minute.

Then, Sarawak were hit by four goals in a 10-minute spell. The goals came from defender Marcos Antonio (35th), Juan Lucero (36th), Azniee Taib Shahrol Saperi (40th, OG) and Fazly Mazlan (44th).

Skipper Safiq Rahim could have increased the score after the break but squandered his kick from the penalty spot in the 49th minute.

The East Malaysians reduced the deficit with an own goal from JDT defender Mohd Fadhli Shas in the 60th minute.

Selangor can breathe easy again after putting their Super League campaign back on track with a narrow 1-0 win over Penang at the Selayang Municipal Council Stadium.

The Red Giants, who had gone without a win in their last three matches, scored through Mauro Olivi.

The Argentine, who is back from suspension, scored with a well taken free-kick, which sailed past an off-position Penang goalkeeper Sani Anuar Kamsani in the 17th minute.

The win enabled Selangor to move up one rung from fourth to third in the standings with 14 points.

Pahang continued their revival with a 4-3 win over Kelantan at the Darul Makmur Stadium in Kuantan.
