PETALING JAYA: Muhd Syafiq Puteh-Nur Dhabitah Sabri failed to end the diving team’s campaign on a high note at the World Aquatic Championships.
In the mixed 3m springboard synchro final, the duo finished 11th after a five-dive score of 271.29 points in Gwangju, South Korea, yesterday.
Australia’s Matthew Carter-Maddison Keeney took home the gold with 304.86 points.
They edged Canada’s Francois Imbeau-Dulac-Jennifer Abel for the silver (304.08) while Germany’s Lou Massenberg-Tina Punzel earned the bronze (301.62).
The three pairs have earned themselves a place in the Tokyo Olympic next year.
Meanwhile, in the 3m springboard final on Friday night, Wendy Ng Yan Yee finished ninth (282.40) to secure her Olympic ticket as one of the top 12 divers at the world meet.
China’s Shi Tingmao, with 391 points, took the gold ahead of teammate Wang Han (372.85). Keeney picked up the bronze (367.05).
Pandelela Rinong-Leong Mun Yee also earned an Olympic spot in Gwangju after their silver-medal feat in the 10m platform synchro.
Pandelela also qualified for the individual event after she finished fifth.
