PETALING JAYA: American outfit Modern Adventure Pro Cycling may be the newest addition to the 30th edition of Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) from Sept 27-Oct 4 but they have a few tricks up their sleeves.
Team manager Alex Howes will rely on South African climber Stefan De Bod to lead the charge.
The 29-year-old is no stranger to local routes, having represented Terengganu Cycling Team (TSG) last year and finishing as runner-up in Stage 6 at LTdL24 while with EF Education-EasyPost.
De Bod will be supported in the hills by 2025 Tour of the Gila winner Kieran Haug and Leo Hayter. Sprint specialists Robin Carpenter, Scott McGill, and Riley Pickrell round out the squad.
LTdL chief operating officer (COO) Emir Abdul Jalal compared the world No. 35 team’s trajectory to former underdogs Uno-X and Tudor.
“Just like Uno-X and Tudor were unknown when they came here a few years ago, today Uno-X has achieved WorldTeam status, while Tudor is well on track to join that elite tier,” Emir said.
“It is entirely possible that Modern Adventure can do the same.”
The team will arrive in Malaysia following warm-up races in Quebec, Montreal, and Luxembourg throughout September.
LDtL flags off in Bukit Jelutung, Shah Alam, on Sept 27 and concludes in Putrajaya on Oct 4.
