Cricket-Bangladesh 95-8 at tea, trail by 51 runs in second test v Australia


Aug 23 (Reuters) - Bangladesh were ⁠95 for eight in their second innings at tea on ⁠day two of the second test against Australia in Mackay ‌on Sunday, needing 51 runs to make the hosts bat again.

• Bangladesh lost five wickets after resuming at 39 for three after lunch, with pacemen Mitchell Starc and ​Pat Cummins taking two wickets apiece and spinner ⁠Nathan Lyon clinching the key ⁠dismissal of captain Najmul Hossain Shanto for 31.

• Number four batter Shanto ⁠bungled ‌a lofted drive off Lyon to give Starc an easy catch at long-off.

• Left-arm paceman Starc had wicketkeeper Litton Das ⁠caught in the slips for a second successive ​duck and later ‌bowled tailender Taijul Islam for 11.

• Cummins dismissed all-rounder Mehidy Hasan ⁠Miraz for ​one and Hasan Mahmud for two.

• Starc took two wickets in successive balls in the first session, having opener Shadman Islam caught for one before ⁠bowling Mominul Haque for a duck when the ​number three failed to play a shot.

• Opener Tanzid Hasan was caught for nine by Starc at deep fine leg after a miscued pull ⁠shot off the bowling of Cummins.

• Australia were bowled out for 210 in reply to Bangladesh's 64 on day one, to set a 146-run lead.

• Bangladesh's recalled fast bowler Shoriful Islam took a seventh wicket ​after dismissing Cameron Green lbw for 67 ⁠with an in-swinging yorker. Shoriful finished with 7-48, the best innings haul ​for a Bangladesh bowler in an away ‌test.

• Bangladesh lead the two-match series 1-0 ​after thrashing Australia by nine wickets in Darwin.
