Cricket-BCB charges player, officials in anti-corruption probe into Bangladesh Premier League


May 7 (Reuters) - The ⁠Bangladesh Cricket Board has charged multiple team officials ⁠and a domestic cricketer over betting violations ‌and obstruction in an anti-corruption probe into the Bangladesh Premier League, the country's major franchise-based Twenty20 competition.

Player Amit Mojumder and team ​manager Rezwan Kabir Siddique have been ⁠charged with "placing, accepting, laying ⁠or otherwise entering into bets" in relation to matches, ⁠the ‌BCB said on Thursday, after an investigation conducted by its integrity unit.

Towhidul Haque Towhid, ⁠former chairman of the Noakhali Express franchise, and ​Chattogram Royals ‌team manager Lablur Rahman have been charged with ⁠obstructing the ​investigation into the BPL's 2025-26 season which concluded in January.

"The charged Participants have been provisionally suspended and have ⁠14 days from receipt of the ​notices of charge to respond to the allegations," the BCB said in a statement.

Saminur Rahman, who was associated ⁠with the Chattogram Royals franchise, has also been issued an exclusion order following an investigation into the previous three editions of the BPL, the BCB said, ​adding that Rahman had accepted the ⁠exclusion order.

The BCB's integrity unit had flagged "credible suspicion" and ​questioned players and staff of ‌multiple franchises during the month-long ​competition, the national body said in January.
