Cricket-New Zealand pacer Southee to miss World Cup opener

AHMEDABAD (Reuters) -New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee will miss their World Cup opener against defending champions England as he continues his recovery from thumb surgery, stand-in skipper Tom Latham said on Wednesday.

Southee dislocated and fractured his thumb while attempting to take a catch during a one-day international against England last month but was cleared to join the team in India having progressed well in his recovery.
