Young Qurratu'Ain shines with bronze finish in Doha

PETALING JAYA: National bowler Qurratu’Ain Izdihar Pozi clinched bronze in the girls’ singles at the International Friendship Youth Championship in Doha.

The 17-year-old rolled a total of 1,277 pins to finish third at the Qatar Bowling Federation on Wednesday.

Singapore’s Hazel Tan took gold with 1,385, followed closely by Japan’s Kiri Watanabe on 1,380.

The podium finish keeps Qurratu’Ain in contention for the Masters final, where the top eight girls in the overall standings will compete on Saturday.

Meanwhile, compatriot Intan Nor Edryana Nor Azliman placed ninth with 1,225 pins, while Natalie Chong was one pin behind in 10th. Nur Aleeya Syakirah Awang Ali finished 19th with 1,168.

It was tougher going in the boys’ event, where Mohd Zarif Ikram was the best Malaysian in 18th place with 1,326 pins.

Reigning Malaysian Open champion Ethan Damien Goh finished 31st with 1,264, while Mohd Hafiz Darwisy was 36th on 1,234.
