PETALING JAYA: The Westports Malaysia Dragons opening match of the Asean Basketball League (ABL) got off to a horrible start after they were trounced 101-47 by the Singapore Slingers.
The southern neighbours got off to a flying start in the first quarter of the match on Friday with a flurry of three pointers that saw them take 29-7 lead as they were carried by the home crowd at the OCBC Arena in Singapore.
From then on, the Slingers continued to build their lead against the Dragons.
Even the late addition of Australian point guard Shaun Bruce as a stand-in import for injured former NBA point guard Sundiata Gaines was not enough to stop the onslaught.
The Dragons recorded 16 turnovers and only converted a poor 18/64 (28%) of their field goals throughout the match.
They will now have a two-week break before their next match against the Zhuhai Wolf Warriors in Guangdong, China on Dec 7.Already a subscriber? Log in
