Maba Stadium ready for pre-Games tourney

PETALING JAYA: The newly-refurbished Maba Stadium is set to host a pre-SEA Games basketball invitational from June 13-17.

The stadium, which was built in 1995, underwent its first upgrade since 2001 in preparation for the KL Games, which will be held from Aug 19-30.

The RM3.5mil renovation started last November and was completed last month.

Nine teams will compete in the invitational.

The Malaysian women’s team, who are SEA Games defending champions, will be up against Taiwan Fo Guang Basketball Club, a Shanghai selection, the Taiwan Nanshan High School and Scotland’s national side.

The Malaysian men will face two Taiwanese teams – the National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), the Chung Chou University of Science and Technology – and the New Zealand Hoops Nation club.
