Time clock testing ticks on at Denmark and French Opens

PETALING JAYA: The Badminton World Federation (BWF) will continue evaluating their new time clock system at the upcoming Denmark and French Opens.

The system introduced in 2025 allows players 25 seconds between each rally and was designed to improve consistency and transparency in the management of time between rallies.

While the time clock system introduces a more objective framework, the BWF emphasise that it is intended to support rather than replace umpire judgment. Flexibility will be maintained for exceptional circumstances, such as injuries or referee interventions.

The upcoming Opens in Denmark and France this month will focus on gathering stakeholder feedback and assessing player and umpire adaptation.

These findings will inform the final evaluation of the system as the BWF continue their efforts to deliver a more transparent approach to continuous play in elite badminton.

A full implementation of the system is targeted for the first quarter of 2027.
