Zii Jia marches into quarters for first big test against Popov in Arctic

PETALING JAYA: Independent men’s singles shuttler Lee Zii Jia continued his good run at the Arctic Open with a straight-game win over Taiwan’s Su Li-yang to reach the quarter-finals.

In the second-round match at the Energia Arena in Vantaa on Thursday (Oct 8), Zii Jia looked in control as he beat the world No. 39 21-17, 21-12 in 46 minutes.

A tougher test awaits him in the quarter-finals, where he will face world No. 2 Christo Popov of France.

Meanwhile, mixed doubles pair Jimmy Wong-Cheng Su Yin saw their campaign end in the second round after going down 21-19, 7-21, 11-21 to Japan’s Akira Koga-Natsu Saito.
