PETALING JAYA: Shuttlers Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah’s bid to reach their first Asian Games final came to an end after they went down 21-16, 20-22, 12-21 to world No. 1 Liu Shengshu-Tan Ning on Monday (Sept 28).

The Malaysian pair made a bright start in the semi-final at the Ichinomiya City Municipal Gymnasium in Aichi but Shengshu-Tan Ning fought back strongly to force a deciding game.

It was the duo's 11th defeat the China pair in 14 meetings.

Despite missing out on the final, Pearly-Thinaah can still take pride in winning bronze.

They are Malaysia’s first women’s doubles pair to win a women's doubles medal at the Asian Games in 12 years since Vivian Hoo-Woon Khe Wei achieved the feat at Incheon 2014.

In fact, they are the sole medal contributors for badminton at this edition, as all others had faltered.
