PETALING JAYA: Women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah’s hopes of ending their seven-month wait for a title did not materialise at the Taiwan Open on Sunday (Aug 2).
The top seeds had hoped to cap their comeback with a breakthrough title, but their bid was dashed after they lost 16-21, 18-21 to Japan’s world No. 71 pair Sumire Nakade-Miyu Takahashi in a 40-minute final at the Taipei Arena.
The Malaysians have not won a title since capturing the Indonesian Masters in January, largely because Pearly has been steadily making her comeback from injury.
However, the world No. 5 pair can take heart from their good outing in Taiwan, which was their best result of the year.
