PETALING JAYA: Freshly-paired men’s doubles duo Aaron Chia-Aaron Tai came close to clinching their maiden title win at the Taiwan Open but their opponents Leo Carnando-Daniel Marthin of Indonesia were better.
Fifth seeds Chia-Tai, who were competing in their second outing together, looked promising to bag their first win but went down fighting 21-23, 19-21 to the eighth seeded Indonesians at the Taipei Arena on Sunday (Aug 2)
The Malaysians held the lead for majority of both the games, but Leo-Daniel fought their way from behind to win in straight games and celebrate their second title of the year together after tasting success at the Thailand Open in May.
Chia-Tai made their debut as a pair at the China Open last week, but bowed out in the opening round.
The duo will remain together for the Korean Masters from Aug 4-9, but will be split again for the China Masters from Sept 1-6 as Chia will partner Man Wei Chong and Tai teams up with Soh Wooi Yik.
