KUALA LUMPUR: Young Malaysian women's doubles pair Low Zi Yu-Noraqilah Maisarah Ramdan pulled off an upset by ousting another world No. 10 pair in Hsieh Pei Shan-Hung En Tzu of Taiwan to reach the second round of the Australian Open in Sydney on Tuesday.

The world No. 84 pair showed plenty of composure and determination to beat the world No. 8 and second seeds 21-19, 13-21, 21-19 in a 70-minute battle.

Zi Yu-Noraqilah will next take on either Australia's Jazmine Lam-Lim Yee Yuan or Sai Mushini-Ava Wong next and should be able to win.

The duo had also beaten a top 10 pair in Rin Iwanaga-Kie Nakanishi during the tie against Japan at the Uber Cup Finals in Horsens, Denmark, in May.

Independent men's doubles pair Teo Ee Yi-Chia Wei Jie also enjoyed a winning start after defeating Indonesia's Putra Erwiansyah-Bagas Maulana 21-18, 23-21.

They will next face Taiwan's Chen Cheng-kuan-Liu Kuang-heng in the second round.
