Chong Wei opens door for Pei Kee return after meeting

PETALING JAYA: Former national doubles shuttler Go Pei Kee arrived at the Badminton Association of Malaysia with a worried look but left with a big smile on her face.

Pei Kee, who will turn 24 next month, had a fruitful meeting with Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) performance committee chairman Datuk Seri Lee Chong Wei at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) yesterday.

Chong Wei said he had offered Pei Kee the opportunity to return to the national team.

"We had a good discussion. She explained to me what transpired that led to her leaving the national team,” said Chong Wei.

Pei Kee left the national setup before Chinese New Year after posting on social media that she would no longer be playing with Teoh Mei Xing.

The duo had reached a career-high ranking of world No. 18 and won the Malaysia Super 100 title in 2024.

"I tried to find a solution for her. She is still young and I’ve offered her the opportunity to return. She said she would think about it.

"As a former player, I can understand her struggles. I’m glad that she was open and took the trouble to see me.

"I told her that life will not always be smooth and we can learn through our struggles. It was nice to see her face light up.”

Chong Wei will speak to national doubles coaching director Rexy Mainaky and women’s doubles head coach Rosman Razak about the matter after they return from their European assignments with the national team.
