Pearly-Thinaah win Indonesian Masters without even lifting racquets

PETALING JAYA: Women’s doubles shuttlers Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah won the Indonesian Masters title without even lifting their racquets after Japan’s Arisa Igarashi-Miyu Takahashi conceded a walkover in the final.

Pearly-Thinaah were supposed to take on the new pairing in the final on Sunday (Jan 25) but the Badminton World Federation (BWF) website showed that the latter had pulled out of the match, awarding the title to the Pearly-Thinaah.

While it was not the way the world No. 2 pair would have wanted to capture the crown, it was their first title of the year.

Pearly-Thinaah finished runners-up to South Korea’s Kim Hye-jeong-Kong Hee-yong in last year’s edition.
