Tang Jie-Ee Wei suffer shock first-round exit in India

PETALING JAYA: Mixed doubles shuttlers Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei suffered a surprise first-round exit from the Indian Open after losing to China’s Cheng Xing-Zhang Chi.

The reigning world champions struggled to raise their game and went down 16-21, 19-21 to the world No. 16 pair at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex in New Delhi on Wednesday (Jan 14).

It was Tang Jie-Ee Wei’s first defeat to Cheng Xing-Zhang Chi after beating the pair in their sole encounter previously in the 2024 Korean Open.

This is the world No. 3 pair's first early-round loss since their defeat in the second round of the Singapore Open in May last year.
