Seu Bock finally gets head coach job

BUKIT JALIL: Datuk Tey Seu Bock has been confirmed as the new head of the national men’s singles squad.

Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) performance committee chairman Datuk Seri Lee Chong Wei said Seu Bock would report to national singles coaching director Kenneth Jonassen.

Seu Bock, who is assuming the top spot for the first time in his long coaching career, had accompanied men’s singles player Leong Jun Hao during the Malaysian Open last week.

“Appointment of Seu Bock was discussed with Kenneth. In fact, he wanted Seu Bock to return to the senior national team to assist him and work together with the other coaches,” said Chong Wei.

Chong Wei added that Seu Bock’s promotion back to the senior squad was based on Jonassen’s recommendation.

Apart from his ability to work well with the existing coaching set up, Seu Bock brings vast experience in handling the men’s singles squad, having coached Chong Wei during his playing days, before being reassigned to lead the men’s singles junior squad in 2023.

“I listen to what Kenneth wants. I’m an official. My role is to cooperate and listen to what the coaches need. I’m always behind them.

“Coach Seu Bock did a good job at the junior level. You can see clear improvement among the junior players,” added Chong Wei.
