Heartbreak for Ee Wei, loses grandfather just days before SEA Games

PETALING JAYA: Less than 24 hours after being named co-captain for the Thailand SEA Games, world mixed doubles champion Toh Ee Wei was struck by heartbreaking news when she lost her beloved grandfather on Thursday (Dec 4).

Ee Wei was not present when the national badminton team departed for Bangkok on Friday (Dec 5) as she chose to stay home to pay her final respects.

“Yesterday, I lost my grandfather. My heart is heavy and I pray he rest in peace,” wrote Ee Wei.

Ee Wei is expected to join the team in Bangkok on Saturday, with the women’s team event scheduled to begin on Sunday (Dec 7).
