PETALING JAYA: World champions Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei sent a strong reminder of their pedigree by capturing the Australian Open mixed doubles crown.

On Sunday (Nov 23), Tang Jie-Ee Wei were a class above as they swept aside Indonesia’s world No. 11 pair Jafar Hidayatullah-Felisha Pasaribu 21-16, 21-11 in 42 minutes at the Sydney Olympic Park.

The triumph marked the Malaysians’ first World Tour title of the year and a timely confidence boost as they gear up for the SEA Games in Thailand from Dec 9-20.

The Malaysian last won a World Tour title at the Korean Open in August last year.

Earlier, India's men singles shuttler Lakshya Sen defeated Yushi Tanaka of Japan 21-15, 21-11 to win his first title this year.

In the men's doubles, Raymon Indra-Nikolaus Joaquin defeated their experienced seniors Fajar Alfian-Shohibul Fikri 22-20, 10-21, 21-18 in an all-Indonesian final.

There was also upset in another all-Indonesian final when Rachel Allessya-Febi Setianingrum defeated Febriana Dwipuji-Meilysa Trias 18-21, 21-19, 23-21 in the mixed doubles.
